Abstract

The purpose of this research is to understand the thermal conductivity of poplar wood. Wood possesses physical properties such as density, mechanical resistance, moisture absorption, insulation against heat and sound, flexibility, thermal expansion, impact resistance, an attractive appearance with natural color and texture, and thermal conductivity. The thermal conductivity of wood relates to the amount of heat transfer, which primarily depends on density, moisture, and wood type. Poplar wood was considered with a specific cross-sectional area 20×20cm2 and thickness 1cm; the reason for selecting these dimensions is based on the device's standards. In this experiment, a heat source was applied along the thickness as a heat source in one direction, while water was used in the other direction for cooling purposes. The heat source, water for cooling, and the poplar wood sample were all placed within a wooden frame. The thermal conductivity of poplar wood increases linearly from  at 51°C to  at 82.1°C temperature. One important factor in heat transfer is the density of the material; the higher the density, the greater the thermal conductivity.
