Abstract

Organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) are a new generation of light sources that are rapidly growing and replacing other light sources due to their advantages of low manufacturing cost, low energy consumption, low voltage, flexibility, and lightness, but there are challenges in their development. The aim of this research is to study and investigate these diodes in order to identify the challenges in their development and to overcome the existing obstacles. This research is a review and has been conducted in a library manner, and information has been collected through the study of articles and journals related to the subject. They are currently successfully used in flexible electronics due to their excellent mechanical and optical properties, as well as their resistance to dissolution and relatively good thermal stability, as well as their low moisture absorption and poor oxygen absorption. Despite the advantages of using low-cost plastic substrates, their main challenge is thermal degradation and degradation during fabrication processes with temperatures above 100C°. Currently, the problems and obstacles to the development of organic light-emitting diodes include the flexibility and thermal stability of the substrates used, the surface roughness of the material, the flexibility and mechanical stability of the transparent conductive electrode, interlayer damage, light extraction technology, the lifetime of the materials used in OLED and its performance, and the device fabrication technology. Overall, despite the existing challenges, research and development in the field of OLEDs continues, and it is hoped that with scientific and technological advances, these problems will gradually be resolved
